Who can study music?
The answer is anyone with a desire to improve his or her singing and musical ability. Can I make you a Broadway or pop star? No. I can give you the tools you will need to sing healthily and with interpretive meaning. For students wishing to study piano or flute, we will work on the fundamentals of the instrument through scales and warm-up exercises as well as etudes, solos and duets.
Educational Philosophy
While my main focus is musical theatre and acting, I use the classical training I received every time I sing. Classical study lays the foundation for singing all types of music. Lessons are structured to reflect that and are tailored to students individual needs and goals. A large part of being a voice teacher is listening to the student sing to discover potential or already existing problem areas and to find the room to grow. It is very important to me that students voices are nurtured to grow healthily in a naturally progressive way. Repertoire study is built specifically to allow the voice to have that natural progression. I have high expectations for my students in terms of preparation, having an open mind and being ready to try what I am asking for. I hold myself to the same standards when it comes to timely and appropriate repertoire assignments, careful listening and instruction and confidentiality.
